Introduction 

Throughout my years of studying Public Relations, I have learnt that Brands need PR in order to have good relationships with its stakeholders and PR acts as a bridge between the brand and its external stakeholders. In order for brands to communicate with their stakeholders they need to choose social platforms to spread out information, so I learnt that brand communication plays an important role in shaping how business connect with their audience. My blog will be exploring the importance of social media in brand communication and how it builds perception, trust, and brand success.


Definition of Social Media


It is a group of Internet-based applications that build on the belief based and digital foundations of Web 2.0 and allow the creation and exchange of participant content (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010). #Social Media and Brand Communication 




The Role of Social Media in Brand Communication

According to Madan and Rahul (2025) social media can be used as a tool for creating a positive impact on brand awareness, brand engagement and brand loyalty in the form of advertisement, customer feedback, and information sharing. This ultimately, creates and come up with a scale for measuring brand communication using social media. I believe social media improves the brand visibility, changes how business engage with its stakeholders, making it easier for brands to manage and control their reputation, and establishes meaningful and strong relationships with their customers. Importance of Social Media in Brand Communication Building

Increased Brand Visibility

Social media platforms create a wide stage for brand to show off their goods, services, and their core values. By establishing and sharing content, organisations can reach out to various and diverse audience. This helps improves visibility and it is viable in creating brand recognition and awareness (IIJSR, 2023:9).

Direct Engagement with the Audience

Social media allows businesses to connect directly with their audiences. They can choose to respond to comments on social media comment section, answer questions when asked, and engage in real conversations. This direct participation relates to the brand and creates a sense of connection and builds trust with clients (IIJSR, 2023:9).

Content Creation and Storytelling

Through many content formats for example, posts, videos, images, and social media enables brands to tell their stories and pass out their message. This storytelling part is important for building brand identity, core values and personality (IIJSR, 2023:9).

Community Building 

 Social media creates platform for businesses to establish communities around their brand. By building groups, forums, or pages that speaks about their goods and services, brands can motivate individuals that are business minded participating and share their experiences (IIJSR, 2023:9).

Brand Loyalty and Advocacy

 Participating with customers on social media can influence an improvement of brand loyalty. Customers that are always happy with the brand services always speaks good about the brand, sharing positive experience, and recommend the brand to other people they know. These customers referrals are effective for branding (IIJSR, 2023:9).

The Importance of Brand Communication

 Consistent communication builds trust and loyalty. When a brand can communicate its mission across different platforms, it creates a well-structured image that aligns with its customers. Organisation that focuses on improving communication strategies such providing online languages can reach big, more diverse audiences (Willis, 2024).  These are Importance of Brand Communication

Challenges of Social Media in Brand Communication

According to Barnhart (2023) these are challenges of social media

  • Most industries have many competitions every brand wants to stand and be differentiated among other brands which lead to them failing to choose a right social media platform to communicate.
  • Creating a presence across all social networks can always make you feel like time is not on your side. With messages, notification, and deadlines demanding your attention it is one of the most challenges of social media that a brand can face.



 

Conclusion: Social Media as a Key Driver
Being a Public Relations student at the University of Johannesburg I have concluded that in the digital age the influence of social media in brand building cannot be overplayed as it is a vital role where the brand can determine the brand's success. I have learned that social media has become a powerhouse for business who want to create their brand identity. My blog was able to reveal the importance of social media in brand communication, where I founded out the role of social media, the challenges it comes with ultimately coming up with a conclusion that the effective use of social media is not only advantages but important for contemporary brand success.
